Storm season here in Queensland bought on a whole new set of challenges when Mr 3 suddenly became terribly fearful of a good ol thunderstorm.
As soon as he heard a faint rumble in the sky his hands would shoot up and over his ears. Convincing him the noise was just the neighbour bringing his wheely bin down the driveway only worked until the REAL thunder began. With each clap of thunder Mr 3 launched himself into my arms, almost literally flying across the room. Trying to unlatch him from me caused absolute terror and bedtime was a whole nother mission in it's self. Actually, it was an impossible mission unless i let him sleep on the couch while i worked away in the lounge room.
Mr 3 has had kid size hearing protection ear muffs since he was just 6 months old, they have been necessary for loud events but totally invaluable in our day to day life.....and this was one of those times when they were going to be invaluable. I'd tried every method i could think of to provide calm during the storm, then one day not long after all the panic started i remembered about Mr 3's ear muffs....better late than never!
Talk about miracle cure! Instant confidence for Mr 3 and relief for me too...no extra body in my bed hogging my space, no more super man launches across the room, he was even happy to go peacfully to bed with the ear muffs on, and slept in them too!
